A Coffee Weekend in Doi Chang

Coffee farms · Mountains · Coffee and cafés

WHY GO

Come to Doi Chang while the coffee farms are working.

Doi Chang is a coffee-growing village in the hills of Chiang Rai. The coffee is picked from about November to February.

Depending on the week and the farm, you may see coffee cherries being picked, or beans being washed and dried in the sun.

At the heart of the weekend is a morning on a working farm with the people who grow the coffee. You see what is happening that week, then taste the coffee where it comes from.

Everyone who comes has chosen this trip for the coffee, so conversation has somewhere natural to begin.

Around the farm morning, the weekend stays light: Northern Thai food, an easy walk in the hills, the village cafés and time with nothing planned.

‍

WHAT WE PROMISE

Going to a café on your own is easy. A morning on a working farm takes arranging, and Doi Chang is about an hour and a half from Chiang Rai airport, the last part on a winding road. We take care of both.

Already decided

  • Three days and two nights in Doi Chang, in coffee season
  • A morning on a working coffee farm with the people who grow the coffee, then a guided tasting
  • An easy walk in the hills, Northern Thai food and time in the village cafés
  • A well-reviewed stay near the farms, chosen and checked by us for comfort, where every room has its own bathroom
  • The mountain road driven in daylight, up and down with the group, and transport for everything we do together
  • A local trip leader throughout, and never more than 15 people
  • At least one afternoon left free, to spend as you like

After you register

You can tell us what interests you, such as roasting your own beans. If enough people choose the same thing and it can be arranged, it becomes part of the trip, included in the price. If not, you can ask to add it for yourself. You pay only for what you add.

We set the dates around when the people who register can go, and before seasonal burning brings smoke to the hills from mid-February.

‍

DATES DON'T WORK?

Register anyway and tell us when you could go. If enough people ask for the same dates, we add a trip for them.

‍

WHO THIS JOURNEY IS FOR

This journey is for you if:

  • You have dreamed of seeing the northern lights, but never wanted the stress of planning an Arctic itinerary.
  • You enjoy travelling independently, but appreciate having the difficult logistics taken care of.
  • You like meeting people naturally, without being expected to spend every moment together.
  • You believe memorable journeys come from good design, not busy schedules.
  • You would rather have fewer places and more time than rush through checklist attractions.

‍

Probably not the right fit if you want every hour of every day guided and scheduled.

‍

THE LOCOSOLO CIRCLE

Every journey includes access to the LocoSolo Circle — a private community for travellers joining the same departure. Join in as much or as little as you like.

‍

Day by day, paced on purpose.

Northern lights. Dramatic fjords. Fishing villages at the edge of the world. A coastal voyage through Arctic Norway. Every difficult detail already taken care of.

‍

Getting There

Starts and ends at Chiang Rai airport. We recommend flights once the dates are set.

Flights
Not included, by design, so you can use your miles, choose your airline, and add days before or after. Once the dates are set, we recommend flights that make the most of your time and use the fewest days of leave, and we check typical fares.

Flying from somewhere else? Arrive in Chiang Rai in time for the Day 1 group transfer and leave Chiang Rai after the Day 3 one. Tell us where you are travelling from and we will recommend a routing.

‍

Good To Know

  • Time off. A long weekend; the exact days of leave are confirmed with the dates.
  • Group size. Never more than 15.
  • Rooms. If you choose twin-share, we will pair you with another solo traveller of the same gender. A private room is available as an upgrade.‍
  • Meals. Some meals are arranged; the rest are at your own cost, with suggestions from us.‍
  • Itinerary changes. Weather may shift timing or routing, always made with safety and experience quality in mind.‍
  • Before you go. You will be added to a private group chat with the other travellers. Everyone in it chose this trip too, so it is an easy place to start. Join in as much or as little as you like.

‍

Join the invitation list early and you get a say before we lock the final plan and price: what to add, when to go and what you would realistically pay. If the trip goes ahead, you will hear first and get the invitation price. Nothing to pay until you decide to book.

You are on the invitation list.
If this trip goes ahead, you'll be among the first invited to book.
Want a say in what the final trip looks like?
On your own, that usually means paying for a private tour. Here, being early is enough. It takes a few minutes, and you can skip anything you do not have a view on. We look at everyone's answers together before we lock the dates, what to include, how much free time to leave and the final price.
What would make this trip worth going for?
Choose the three that matter most to you.
Would you add any of these?
Choose any. None of these is confirmed yet, and some would cost extra.
When could you realistically go?
Where would you most likely fly from?
This helps us plan when the trip should start and finish.
How much personal time would you want during the trip?
What is the most you would realistically consider paying for this trip, before flights?
We look at everyone's answers together when we shape the final trip. Your answer does not change the price you are offered. Assume it is per person and includes a twin-share room, ground transport, some meals and the main group activities. A private room would cost extra.
What room arrangement would you prefer?
If you wanted your own room, what is the most extra you would realistically consider paying for it, for the whole trip?
Would you be interested in adding days before or after the group trip?
Who would you want as the main person travelling with the group?
Specialist local guides may also join for particular experiences.
ABOUT THE GROUP
Skip this if you prefer. It helps us plan rooms and the group, and does not affect your invitation.
Which age range are you in?
Which best describes you?
Would any of these make you more likely to join?
Choose any.
Anything you'd like us to keep in mind before booking opens?
A preference, concern, or something you'd particularly like to see included.
Thanks, this is genuinely useful! We'll look across everyone's answers when deciding things like when we go, what we include, how much personal time to build in and how the trip should feel.
