I NEED COMPANY WITHOUT THE PRESSURE
Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai · Thailand
The Open Table
Return open to people.
In Northern Thailand, some of the warmest welcomes begin with a shared meal. Around those tables are Hmong hosts, tea growers and hill-tribe families who have welcomed our local partners' guests for many years. You do not arrive as a customer. You arrive as their guest.
These are not attractions. They are invitations.
Along the way, there is as much space for solitude as there is for conversation. No pressure to socialise. Just the freedom to join in, or not.
Days at walking pace.
Quiet hours of your own.
A place waiting at every table. Never an obligation.
Your first evening ends with a family-style dinner in a traditional Hmong village, where music and dance follow the meal. Join in if you wish. Simply watch if you prefer. However you choose to take part, the welcome is the same.
Walk through the morning mist, harvesting tea leaves alongside the people who grow them. Then sit down to taste the finished tea while looking across the fields it came from. The tea in your cup was growing nearby just an hour earlier.
Some journeys are as memorable as the destination itself. Begin with an optional alms offering to Buddhist monks before travelling through tea country, exploring Wat Rong Khun with a local guide, and climbing into the cool mountain air of Doi Mae Salong.
Follow the Ban Mai Santi Trail through forests and tea plantations before joining a local community to prepare and share a traditional lunch together. Afterwards, experience a guided forest bathing session (shinrin-yoku), the Japanese practice of slowing down and becoming more aware of the natural world.
For two nights, your home overlooks the hills of Chiang Rai. Wander forest trails, watch deer and peacocks roam freely, visit the spa, or simply enjoy the quiet between shared experiences.
A free afternoon at the lodge. Quiet moments between experiences. Evenings that end whenever you want them to. There is always something to join—and always space to step away.
Stand where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet before stopping for one final meal. Choose from Yunnanese dishes and mountain teas before beginning the journey home.
Probably not the right fit if you want every hour of every day guided and scheduled.
Every journey includes access to the LocoSolo Circle — a private community for travellers joining the same departure. Join in as much or as little as you like.
There is always a place waiting for you.Whether you sit down is entirely up to you.
The itinerary may be adjusted to best suit your needs, weather, and operating conditions. For safety, we reserve the right to suspend participation at any time if a guest's medical condition or behaviour poses a risk to themselves or others.
Two handpicked stays — a community lodge, then a mountain resort — chosen for where they put you.
On most journeys we leave meals to you. Here, the tables are part of the journey — arranged and included where the day ends far from town, with two lunches left for you to choose. Joining each table is always optional:
Curated experiences included throughout the journey.
A small number of optional experiences can be arranged for travellers who want to explore further during free time. These are at own cost and can be requested in advance.
The journey begins on the Chiang Mai side and ends in Chiang Rai, so you fly into Chiang Mai (CNX) and home from Chiang Rai (CEI). Chiang Mai is the gateway. The journey moves north from there.
