Lofoten to Tromsø in Winter
“Snow, winter light and dark nights, with someone else on the Arctic roads.”
Northern Lights · Snow · A reindeer camp
By March, there is enough daylight to properly enjoy the days: fjords and fishing villages, short walks and winter experiences.
The nights are still dark enough for the Northern Lights. They are a good reason to come, but not the only one.
The winter roads. You may want the snow. You probably do not want to drive unfamiliar Arctic roads in it. A professional winter driver handles the road journeys, so you can watch the landscape instead of the road.
Arctic weather changes plans. We build in room to move walks, activities or timings, so one stormy day does not undo the week.
5 of the 6 nights are planned at stays chosen with Northern Lights viewing in mind. We looked at where and when the Northern Lights are most likely before we planned this.
Many Northern Lights tours are a chase: hours in a minibus after dark, and back past midnight. We plan the overnight stops so that, on most nights, you can step outside and look at the sky.
If you would still like to try a chase once, we can arrange one as an optional extra.
See Lofoten in its winter season: snow when conditions give it to us, fishing villages, fjords, short winter walks, cold air outside and somewhere warm to come back to. Part of the journey north is by coastal ship from Svolvær instead of another long winter drive.
In Tromsø, the plan includes a Sámi reindeer experience.
The week is not built to fill every hour. At selected stops, the time is yours. Walk a village in the snow. Find somewhere warm for coffee. Take photographs. Or skip an optional activity and have a slow morning. In Tromsø, there is free time to see the city however you like.
This is for you if you actively want Lofoten in winter.
You want snow and winter light to be part of the trip. You want short walks and winter experiences, and you would rather leave Arctic roads to someone who drives them for a living.
You would love to see the Northern Lights, without every evening becoming a chase. You like company for the parts that are easier together, and you still want time to enjoy a place on your own.
Register anyway and tell us when you could go. If enough people ask for the same dates, we add a trip for them.
Probably not the right fit if you want every hour of every day guided and scheduled.
Every journey includes access to the LocoSolo Circle — a private community for travellers joining the same departure. Join in as much or as little as you like.
Northern lights. Dramatic fjords. Fishing villages at the edge of the world. A coastal voyage through Arctic Norway. Every difficult detail already taken care of.
The itinerary may be adjusted to best suit your needs, weather, and operating conditions. For safety, we reserve the right to suspend participation at any time if a guest's medical condition or behaviour poses a risk to themselves or others.
The full list of what is included comes with the dates and the price, before you decide whether to book.
The trip starts in Lofoten, at Leknes airport, and ends in Tromsø.
Flights
Not included, by design, so you can use your miles, choose your airline, and add days before or after. Once the dates are set, we recommend flights that make the most of your time and use the fewest days of leave, and we check typical fares.
Flying from somewhere else? Arrive in Leknes in time for the Day 1 group transfer and leave Tromsø after the Day 7 one. Tell us where you are travelling from and we will recommend a routing.
If there is a trip you have been saving for "one day", it might already been on the 2027 shortlist.
