Lofoten to Tromsø: The Wide North
WHY THIS JOURNEY

You have imagined standing beneath the northern lights.

Not comparing ferry schedules. Not wondering whether you have chosen the right route. Not spending months piecing together a journey that simply feels effortless. Just standing beneath a sky you have wanted to see for years.

That is why we designed The Wide North.

Every LocoSolo journey begins with the same idea: extraordinary places that are difficult to experience well on your own.

Arctic Norway rewards those who travel slowly. The places you will remember most are often the hardest to reach. That is why this journey begins in Lofoten, ends in Tromsø, and follows Norway's coastline all the way north.

It takes more planning than most holidays.

We have already taken care of that.

So when the sky comes alive, you are already where you hoped to be.

WHY WE CHOSE OCTOBER

Our Arctic journeys were originally planned to begin in winter 2027. But one week kept drawing us back.

Early October was simply too good to leave for another year.

If we were making this journey ourselves, this is the week we would choose—and the one we would confidently recommend to our own friends and family.

By early October, the aurora season is already underway. The mountains still glow with autumn colour. The villages are quieter. The fjords remain open. And there is still enough daylight to fall in love with the landscape before darkness becomes the main event. We did not want that season to pass without giving people the chance to experience it.

3–9 October 2026; Our only Arctic departure before winter 2027.

If this departure fills, the next opportunity to travel with us in Arctic Norway will be winter 2027.

WHY NORWAY—AND WHY LOFOTEN FIRST

The northern lights may bring you to Norway. Lofoten is what you will remember.

We wanted more than evenings spent waiting for darkness. We wanted mornings in fishing villages, afternoons on one of the world's great coastlines, and an overnight voyage where the journey itself became part of the experience. In Norway, the days are every bit as memorable as the nights.

Many northern lights holidays begin and end in Tromsø. Ours begins where Arctic Norway feels at its most extraordinary—Lofoten.

From Singapore, getting here usually means two connections. We think the journey deserves more than arriving in one city, waiting for darkness, and flying home again.

That is why we chose Norway.

If the aurora never appeared, we would still want to make this journey.

THE MOMENTS YOU WILL REMEMBER

FIVE NIGHTS, REAL CHANCES
Five Nights Beneath Arctic Skies

The northern lights can never be guaranteed. Being there when they appear can. There are no midnight minibus chases on this journey—you stay where the lights appear. Five nights across Lofoten, Norway's coastline and Tromsø give you genuine opportunities to experience one of nature's greatest spectacles. And if you would still like a guided aurora chase, one can be arranged in Lofoten or Tromsø at additional cost.

ALONG THE COAST
The Coastline on Every Postcard

Reine. Hamnøy. Sakrisøy. Places you have probably seen in photographs. Places that deserve more than a photograph.

WATERFRONT STAYS
Wake Up Inside Lofoten

The best places to stay here have only a handful of rooms. Yours is a restored fishing cabin or a coastal lodge — the property may vary, the setting does not.

BY SEA, NOT ROAD
Sail North

Most journeys leave Lofoten the same way they arrived. Yours continues north. Board your private en-suite cabin in Svolvær. Wake to Norway's coastline outside.

SÁMI CULTURE
An Evening with the Sámi

Beyond the city lights, share a warm meal in a traditional lavvu, hear stories passed through generations and meet reindeer beneath Arctic skies. A reminder that the Arctic is more than a landscape. It is home.

TIME TO YOURSELF
Space to Slow Down

A free day in Lofoten. A slow morning in Henningsvær. An afternoon and a full day in Tromsø. Time to wander. Time to notice. Time to simply be.

Good To Know

  • Northern lights — five nights in aurora territory across Lofoten and Tromsø—but the aurora is a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed.
  • Fitness — good general health; expect cold, wind, and walking on uneven ground.
  • Conditions — autumn Arctic—crisp days, long dark evenings for aurora, and changeable weather. Warm layers essential.
  • Itinerary changes — Arctic weather may shift timing or routing—always made with safety and experience quality in mind.
  • Beyond the price — budget for flights, travel insurance, any visa, optional activities (kayaking, aurora hunts, fjord cruises), and tips for the guide and driver.
