Northern Lights: Lofoten to Tromsø (Winter)

ME+WE TRAVEL · NORWAY · WINTER

Designed entirely around the solo traveller.

Private rooms. Small groups. Real free time. No solo driving on icy roads.

This 9-day journey takes you through the Lofoten Islands and north to Tromsø — past fishing villages, frozen fjords and Arctic landscapes.

The No-Chase Aurora Experience

Instead of chasing the Northern Lights across the Arctic, this journey is designed to place you in the right locations — and give the sky time to come to you.

The aurora cannot be guaranteed — no one can promise that.
What we can promise is eight nights in prime aurora territory across the Lofoten Islands and Tromsø.

Many Northern Lights tours involve long night drives chasing the aurora. On this journey, we take a different approach:

  • Stay in low-light locations ideal for aurora viewing
  • Watch the aurora from your accommodation or coastal cruise deck
  • Multiple nights maximize your chance to see the lights without standing outside for hours in the freezing cold

The goal: relax, enjoy the Arctic, aand give yourself the best possible chance of witnessing the Northern Lights.

Prefer to chase? We can arrange that too — see optional experiences below.

The "Me + We" Balance

Me+We Travel is built around a simple idea: shared experiences when they add something, personal space when you need it. The structure is there so you don't have to think about logistics. The freedom is there so the trip still feels like yours.

In practice, it tends to feel like this:

  • The group gathers for the Lofoten scenic drive. Somewhere along the route, conversation starts. By Reine, you've found the people you'll end up sharing a meal with later that evening — or not. Both are fine.
  • During the free exploration window in Henningsvær, the village splits naturally. Some wander the harbour alone with a camera. Others find a quiet café and end up there for two hours. The group comes back together when it makes sense to.
  • On the coastal cruise, some travellers gather on deck when the lights appear. Others step outside quietly on their own. A few watch from the warmth of their cabin window. Nobody coordinates it — it just happens the way it should.

Participation in shared moments is never mandatory. The structure creates the opportunity. What you do with it is up to you.

Shared Experiences

These are the core included experiences that run across the journey:

  • Lofoten scenic drive — Reine, Hamnøy, Sakrisøy, and the breathtaking Reinefjord
  • Guided Arctic fishing — equipment and lunch included on Svolvær's frozen waters
  • Henningsvær exploration — wander Norway’s most photogenic fishing village
  • Scenic overnight coastal cruise — sail from Svolvær to Tromsø along Norway's dramatic coastline aboard an iconic Norwegian coastal vessel
  • Husky self-drive sledding — take the reins through a snow-covered Arctic forest
  • Reindeer camp dinner — an intimate Sami cultural evening under the Artic sky

Your Space, Your Pace
  • Your own Private room every night
  • Solo Exploration windows in Svolvær and Tromsø
    • free time to wander, shop, photograph, or simply rest
    • explore on your own, or head out with fellow travellers you have met along the journey.

Northern Lights, Your Way
  • Some travellers gather outside together when the lights appear.
  • Others step out quietly — or watch from the window of their room.
  • With several nights in low-light locations, you will have multiple chances to experience the aurora in whatever way feels right to you.

Who This Trip is For

This journey is designed for independent travellers who enjoy  shared experiences alongside personal space.
This is not about ticking off sights — it is about really experiencing a place.
No early rushes. No packed itineraries. No moving just to say you have been there.

You will feel at home here if you...
  • Are genuinely curious about the places you visit
  • Enjoy having time to explore at your own pace
  • Like meeting people, but don’t need constant group activities
  • Are ready to travel freely without overplanning every moment
This probably isn't for you if...
  • You prefer a tightly packed, fully guided schedule
  • Want every detail planned from morning to night
  • Enjoy fast-paced, checklist-style travel

Meals and Dining Flexibility

Me+We Travel is designed to give you flexibility wherever the journey allows it.

  • Remote and activity locations: Some meals are pre-arranged where self-organising isn't practical
  • Towns and cities: When the group is in Svolvær, Henningsvær, or Tromsø, meals are self-directed. Eat where you like, with whoever you like. We'll point you in the right direction, but the choice is always yours.
  • Free time windows: Fully self-directed. Where to go, what to eat, and whether to dine solo or with fellow travellers is entirely up to you.

Most lunches and dinners are intentionally left open so the trip feels like yours, not ours, giving you maximum flexibility without compromising safety or convenience.

Logistics and Comfort

  • Aurora positioning: Accommodations are in low-light zones. If the lights appear, you can often see them directly from your property or cruise deck — no multi-hour van rides required.
  • Private group transport: Travel between villages in a comfortable private vehicle. Our driver handles the icy roads.
  • The sea passage: Instead of a long drive to Tromsø, we sail overnight along Norway's dramatic coastline aboard an iconic Norwegian coastal vessel — part transport, part experience in its own right.

Accomodations

You will stay in a private room every night — never shared.

  • Lofoten (4 Nights): Authentic, renovated Rorbuer (fisherman cabins)

Good to Know

  • Booking and Payment To secure your private room and Arctic activities, a [20]% non-refundable deposit is required. The remaining balance is due 90 days before departure. Because we pre-pay our local partners, cancellations within 60 days of the trip are 100% non-refundable. Mandatory travel insurance is required to protect your investment.
  • Minimum group size This trip requires a minimum of 7 confirmed travellers to depart. If a departure does not reach minimum numbers, we will contact you at least 60 days in advance to offer an alternative date or a full refund.

  • The Nature of the Arctic
    • Aurora sightings: The aurora borealis is a natural phenomenon — it cannot be guaranteed. This itinerary is designed to maximise your chances with 8 nights in prime viewing locations, but sightings depend on clear skies and solar activity.
    • Itinerary changes: Arctic weather is unpredictable. We reserve the right to modify routes or activities to ensure the safety of the group without financial compensation.
